Corpus Christi also has a thriving downtown with art studios, restaurants, and shops, as well as a busy nightlife. Corpus Christi is an ideal city for university students. Not only does the community strongly support A&M-Corpus Christi, but the area is young and alive with activity.

Music students enjoy a highly personal education, where professors know their name and they are not treated as just another number, as they often are at larger schools. We take great pride in our "village," a place where students and faculty enjoy a family-like atmosphere. Students also have numerous opportunities to perform and grow. It is common for our students to be involved with several ensembles each semester. Our music faculty are excellent musicians, teachers, and scholars with degrees from some of the finest music schools in the country. Most importantly, the faculty truly care about the success of the students.

“I chose A&M-Corpus Christi because of its proximity to the water. No where else in the United States can you find an entire college campus on its own island. As a music student, I have experienced performance, as well as concert opportunities in a state of the art facility located across the street form some of the best flat-water windsurfing locations our earth has to offer. I hold music and water very close to me, and being able to do both in the same day is like a dream come true! This is what I do, play tuba and surf, and TAMUCC has given me the chance to do both!"

-Brett Orr, Junior Music Education Major

"I transferred from UT Austin after struggling to do well for a few years and in my second year at TAMUCC I have managed to turn my educational career around, going from struggling to do the minimum just to get by, to passing all my classes with A’s and B’s. The environment at this school really motivates the students to do well. There’s a sense of community that you don’t get at a larger school; you get to know each of the students and teachers on a more personal level and you get a real sense that each of the teachers cares about not only your education but you as a person."

-Joe Perez, Senior Music Education Major
