Dr. José Flores holds his Bachelor and Master degrees in violin performance from the Aaron Copland School of Music at the City University of New York (CUNY) where he studied violin with Margaret Pardee, assistant to Ivan Galamian, and Daniel Phillips, member of the Orion String Quartet. He obtained his Doctorate in Musical Arts degree from the University of Arizona where he was a teaching assistant to Professor Mark Rush. While in Arizona, he also received violin instruction from Steven Mockel, Concermaster of the Tucson Symphony. He served as the Principal Second Violin Chair for the Tucson Symphony during the 2003-2004 season. Dr. Flores participated in the Yehudi Menuhin seminar in San Francisco (June 1-4 2006) as a member of the Sonora String Quartet where the ensemble was highly praised among faculty and students. He was adjunct Professor of Violin at the University of Arizona during the spring of 2006. Dr. Flores was appointed Assistant Professor of Violin at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi in the fall of 2006 where he is a founding member of the Islander String Quartet.
