The Islander Chamber Players

The Islander Chamber Players is an ensemble principally devoted to the performance of trio sonata repertoire of the Baroque period and beyond. Core members are: Dr. Diana Sipes, flute; Dr. José Flores, violin; Ms. Susan Sturman, cello; and Ms. Arlene Long, harpsichord and piano. Performance repertoire includes original works and arrangements of pieces by such composers Bach, Handel, Telemann, Quantz, Haydn, Bizet, Ravel, and Martinu. Not only a quartet, the members also perform duets and trios or invite additional Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi music faculty members and guest artists to join their performances. Accomplished performers, these college professors and spirited colleagues are delighted to offer polished and imaginative concerts to enthusiastic audiences.

The Islander String Quartet

The Islander String Quartet was founded in 2006 as an initiative of the Department of Music at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi in the fall of this year. Its members are Dr. José Flores, Mr. Jesús Barrera, Dr. Melissa Meléndez, and Ms. Susan Sturman. The objectives of this group are to present the standard string quartet repertoire, perform outreach concerts, and recruit strings players for the music program at A&M-Corpus Christi.
